This peice is a take on and old Jim Crow law, an unofficial rule which forbade Black people to eat vanilla ice-cream. The ice-cream, as well as the figure being black is a way of turning that history on its head, vanilla beans being black and all. It is about the irony and ridiculousness of racism, and the ecstacy that comes from beating it. Even if in a small, mundane way.
